Exam Eligibility 

You are eligible to submit your CCIFP Certification Examination application if you meet one the following requirements. There is no experience requirement to submit an application with a bachelor's degree or higher. However, if you possess the work experience at the time of application, you are strongly encouraged to complete that section.

Option 1: Bachelor's Degree or Higher

A bachelor's degree, or higher, from an accredited college or university, including at least twelve (12) credit hours in business-related coursework (accounting, finance, and management). There is no experience requirement to submit an application with a bachelor's degree or higher.

Option 2: Associate's or Equivalent Degree

An associate's degree from an accredited college or university, including at least twelve (12) credit hours in business-related coursework (accounting, finance, and management)

– and –

4,000 hours of experience, in a professional financial position, working for a construction company in its accounting and/or finance department, or as a provider of accounting and/or financial services to the construction industry.

Option 3: HS Diploma or GED Equivalent

A high school diploma, or GED equivalent

– and –

8,000 hours of experience, in a professional financial position, working for a construction company in its accounting and/or finance department, or as a provider of accounting and/or financial services to the construction industry.

Certification Eligibility - Professional Experience

4,000 hours of experience in construction-related activities within the last five (5) years is required for all who pass the CCIFP exam. This experience must be in a professional financial position for a construction contractor or as a provider of accounting and/or financial services to the construction industry.

You may earn the hours before and/or after passing the CCIFP exam. You no longer need all experience hours prior to submitting an application. Once earned, the individual will then be recognized as a CCIFP, receive their certificate, and begin their triennial recertification cycle after the Certification Division completes a verification of work experience.

Those passing the examination still needing to earn additional experience hours will be billed an annual maintenance fee of $200.

The CFMA Certification Division is a semi-autonomous certifying entity, not a membership organization.  Membership to CFMA or any other organization is not a prerequisite for certification, nor is it required after certification. Achieving certification does not constitute membership of CFMA.
